DistroKid, founded in 2012 by entrepreneur Philip Kaplan, is a widely used American digital music distribution service that helps independent musicians upload and monetize their music across major platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, and YouTube Music. Originally launched as a social platform for musicians under the name Fandalism, the company later transitioned into full-scale digital distribution in mid-2013. While DistroKid excels at simplifying music distribution, many users—especially streamers, contributors, or those receiving royalty-based payments—often wonder how to access pay stubs or tax documents such as W2s or 1099 forms. Unlike traditional employers, DistroKid does not provide an internal website for viewing classic “pay stubs.” However, the platform offers multiple ways to view earnings and withdrawable income, and it partners with a third-party service for tax form delivery.
Accessing DistroKid “Pay Stubs” Through the Bank Dashboard
DistroKid does not issue standard pay stubs like traditional employment systems. Instead, users can track their income through the DistroKid Bank, which serves as the primary financial dashboard.
- How to Access the DistroKid Bank
Users can log in to their DistroKid account and click “Bank” at the top banner, or go directly to:
https://distrokid.com/bank
The Bank dashboard displays:
- Total Earnings
This section provides all-time income for every artist on the account. Users can filter earnings by artist, song, or streaming service, offering detailed transparency into where revenue comes from.
Clicking “See Excruciating Detail” reveals additional insights, ideal for tracking performance over time.
- Total Withdrawals
This section lists all completed withdrawals, including dates and amounts (minus applicable fees and taxes). Users may click “See all withdrawals” to view their full withdrawal history.
- “We Owe You” Balance
This shows the amount currently available for withdrawal. DistroKid allows artists to withdraw funds once they clear the processing period from streaming services.
How to Access DistroKid Tax Statements (1099 or 1042-S)
When annual tax forms become available, DistroKid sends an email from statements@tax1099.com
via its tax processing partner. The email prompts users to give consent for eDelivery of tax documents.
Steps to Access Tax Forms
- Click “Consent Now” in the email.
- You will receive a temporary password to create your Zenwork xForce account.
- Log in and set a permanent password.
- Go to Dashboard → eDelivery Requests.
- Click “Consent Now” next to DistroKid to approve electronic delivery.
Upon consent, your 1099 or 1042-S will become accessible within Zenwork when released.
Important Note About State Restrictions
Some states, such as New York and California, impose stricter rules regarding digital pay stub and tax document delivery. As a result, certain DistroKid users in those states may face limitations when retrieving electronic forms.
